COVID-19 Epidemic Level 2 Alert, Taroko National Park Opens Ecological Protection Areas and Mountain Cabins

According to the guidelines of the Central Epidemic Command Center and the Construction and Planning Agency for Severe Special Infectious Pneumonia on September 6, 2021, "National Park Area Response to the COVID-19 Epidemic Alert Level 2 Recreational Visitor Outflow and Inflow Control Measures". Taroko National Park Headquarters (hereinafter referred to as the Taroko N. P. HQ) will be open to all mountaineering trails in the ecological protection areas starting from September 10, 2021.

Epidemic Prevention and Management of Mountain Cabins and Ecological Protection Areas

  1. Adhering to epidemic prevention measures such as social distancing and ventilation, mountain cabins will reduce capacity to 1/3 of regular limits.
  2. Trails applications in the Ecological Protection Area are 1/2 of regular capacity.
  3. Capacity of Zhuilu Old Road: Application is open for 1/2 of regular capacity.
  4. Trails without capacity control: Capacity is limited to 50 people/day.
  5. Other trails: During the epidemic period, applications via Mt. Qilai and Nanhu Mountains routes will be suspended.

Ask hikers to strengthen autonomous epidemic prevention

  1. Mountain cabins are located in remote mountain areas with no permanent management personnel. Hikers are requested to bring their own protective cleaning supplies to increase personal safety, and to clean and disinfect the mountain cabin during their stay.
  2. Mountain cabins have a confined space, so please use it in accordance with the approved bed number interval. Please do not enter without approval. If a confirmed COVID-19 patient has accessed the cabin, emergency response measures will be initiated to strengthen environmental cleanup or a 14-day closure of the cabin.
  3. Those who have applied for permits to the Taroko N. P., in accordance with the precautions of the admission permit, measure the body temperature of the entire team when entering and leaving the park, and report it to the National Park Headquarters through paper delivery or online. Persons who belong to the "Home Quarantine, Home Monitoring, and Autonomous Health Management" announced by the Command Center should cancel or postpone their application for permits; if members of the team have symptoms such as fever, respiratory discomfort or severe cough, they should cancel their permits by themselves.
  4. Mountain hikers should wear masks at all times, maintain social distancing, bring their own protective cleaning supplies, strengthen personal hygiene, cleaning and disinfection, and implement self-management of mountain safety and epidemic prevention risks by referring to the "Autonomous Checklist for Epidemic Prevention of Mountaineering and Hiking Activities".
  5. Hikers are advised to strengthen the hygiene, cleaning and disinfection of each person. Except for family members living with the same family, the camp tent is based on the principle of one person and one tent.
  6. Meals in mountain cabins should be separate eating time; dining in camps should be dispersed in an outdoor ventilated place under social distance, or in separate tents.
  7. In accordance with the latest epidemic prevention guidelines of the Central Epidemic Command Center, maintain a safe social distancing of 1 meter outdoors and wear masks at all times.

In addition, if the Hualien County Government or Xiulin Township Office has stricter epidemic control or closure measures, the Taroko N. P. HQ will also cooperate and follow the regulations. Due to the epidemic situation remaining at a Level 2 alert, tourists are still urged to comply with various epidemic prevention regulations. The Taroko N. P. HQ will also ask the Taorko Branch, Ninth Division, The Seventh Special Police Corps, National Police Agency, Ministry of the Interior to assist in the anti-epidemic inspection. Hikers are advised to follow and actively cooperate with the relevant measures of epidemic prevention and regulations.
